How to Use Tallow Balm in Your Skincare Routine

Simple, Intentional, Effective

One of the most common questions we hear from new customers is: how exactly do I use tallow balm? Unlike a standard lotion, tallow balm is a concentrated, whole-ingredient product where a little goes a long way, and the application method matters.

This guide walks you through exactly how to incorporate our Pure Whipped Tallow into your daily routine, morning or night, for maximum benefit.

Start with Clean, Damp Skin

The single most important tip for using tallow balm effectively: apply it to slightly damp skin. After cleansing or showering, pat your skin dry but leave a little moisture behind. Tallow works by sealing that moisture in while delivering its own nourishing fatty acids and vitamins.

How Much to Use

Less than you think. Start with a pea-sized amount for your face, or a small fingertip scoop for larger body areas. Whipped tallow warms quickly between your fingers and spreads easily and you can always add more!

Morning Routine

  1. Cleanse with a gentle, non-stripping cleanser
  2. Pat skin damp, don't fully dry
  3. Warm a pea-sized amount of Pure Whipped Tallow between your fingertips
  4. Press gently into skin using upward motions
  5. Allow 1–2 minutes to absorb before applying makeup

Tip: Tallow balm works beautifully under mineral SPF. It creates a smooth, nourishing base without interfering with sun protection.

Evening Routine

  1. Double cleanse if you wore SPF or makeup
  2. Apply any actives (vitamin C, retinol, acids) first if you use them and let them absorb for a few minutes
  3. Apply tallow balm as your final moisturizing step                                                                                                                                                                                            Use slightly more than your morning application. nighttime is when skin repairs itself, and tallow's vitamins A and E support that process

Body Application

Tallow balm is exceptional for dry body areas: elbows, knees, heels, hands, and cuticles. Apply immediately after bathing while skin is still warm and slightly damp. For very dry or cracked areas, apply a generous layer and cover with cotton socks or gloves overnight.

Targeted Uses

  • Lips — a tiny dab makes an excellent lip balm
  • Cuticles — massage in nightly to soften and strengthen
  • Under-eye area — the vitamin K and E content makes it ideal for delicate skin
  • Eczema patches — apply generously to inflamed areas; the anti-inflammatory fatty acids help calm irritation
  • After sun exposure — tallow's vitamin D and soothing fats help repair sun-stressed skin

What to Expect

In the first few days, your skin may feel richer than it's used to, especially if you've been using water-heavy conventional lotions. This is normal. Within 1–2 weeks of consistent use, most customers notice their skin requires less product as the barrier strengthens and moisture retention improves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use tallow balm on my face if I have oily skin?
Yes, but start with a very small amount and apply only at night. Many people with oily skin find their sebum production actually balances over time as the skin barrier repairs.

Can I layer tallow balm with other products?
Yes. Apply tallow balm as your final moisturizing step, after serums and actives. It acts as a nourishing occlusive layer.

How long does a jar last?
With daily face use, a standard jar typically lasts 2–3 months. A little goes a long way.
